National and Local Gas Prices Lowest in Years

ROCHELLE  — The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has fallen to about $2.81 to start 2026, the lowest level since March 2021 as U.S. drivers see lower costs at the pump amid steady crude oil prices and ample global supply, according to recent data from the American Automobile Association. The Illinois average stands near $2.89 per gallon, with local prices in Ogle County around $2.74, Lee County about $2.75, and DeKalb County roughly $2.85 per gallon. One year ago the national average was about $3.07 per gallon, showing a notable year‑over‑year decline.
