BYRON — After 21 hours of deliberation over three days, the jury in the trial of 43-year-old Duane Meyer has not reached a verdict in the 2016 Byron house fire that killed his ex-wife, 31-year-old Margaret Meyer, and their 3-year-old son, Amos. Prosecutors allege Meyer intentionally set the fire following a contentious divorce, strangling his ex-wife before igniting the home. Meyer, who was arrested in October 2019 and has remained in custody since, faces four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated arson, and one count of concealing a homicidal death. The case has been marked by lengthy delays, including pretrial motions, defense scheduling conflicts, changes in expert witnesses, and FBI re-analysis of cellphone data. If convicted, Meyer could face life in prison. Jury deliberations are set to resume at 9 a.m. today.
