SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police reported conducting 1,001 firearm enforcement details across the state in 2025 to ensure people prohibited from having firearms are not in possession of them. The enforcement efforts placed 4,949 individuals into compliance with state law. Since 2019, state police have conducted 2,970 enforcement details and brought more than 11,400 people into compliance. Local law enforcement agencies supported through state grants also conducted 10,910 compliance checks in fiscal year 2025, the highest number since the program began. The grants help agencies remove firearms from people who are legally prohibited from having them. The current grant application period for law enforcement agencies is open and will close April 10.
