SPRINGFIELD — Illinois hunters set a new record by harvesting 1,045 wild turkeys during the 2024-2025 fall archery season, beating last year’s total of 803. The season ran from October 1, 2024, to January 19, 2025, with 27,422 permits sold. Ogle, DeKalb, and Lee counties saw modest numbers, with Ogle harvesting 17 turkeys, DeKalb 3, and Lee 22. The top counties for turkey harvest were Fayette, Jefferson, and Pike. Most hunters used crossbows, making up 62% of the harvest. The harvest was nearly split between male and female turkeys, with 51% males and 49% females.
