Illinois Encouraged to Volunteer in Celebration of Nation’s 250th Birthday

SPRINGFIELD – Illinoisans are invited to volunteer with organizations across the state in 2026 to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary. The Illinois United in Service program, run by Serve Illinois and the Illinois America 250 Commission, allows volunteers to log hours online starting this week and receive a commemorative certificate. Organizations can share events to connect volunteers with opportunities nearby, and the program is part of broader efforts to mark the milestone, including historical site passports and projects recording Illinoisans’ reflections for the Library of Congress. More information and event listings are available at il250.org.
