IEMA Encourages Earthquake Preparedness During Earthquake Awareness Month

SPRINGFIELD –  The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is urging residents to practice the Drop, Cover, and Hold On! method during Earthquake Awareness Month. With Illinois’ proximity to two major seismic zones, the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone, a strong earthquake could impact the entire state. IEMA Director Alicia Tate Nadeau emphasized the importance of regularly practicing this safety technique, which involves dropping to the floor, taking cover under sturdy furniture, and holding on until the shaking stops.
