Freezin’ for Food Returns Thursday to Support Salvation Army in DeKalb

DEKALB – The 25th annual Freezin’ for Food event will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Sycamore Hy-Vee to collect non-perishable food and monetary donations for the Salvation Army.

“A little girl came up and brought all her change from her birthday money. She said she had heard that there were other children that didn’t have any cereal, and she wanted to make sure that we spent that money on cereal for other kids,” said TD Ryan, organizer of Freezin’ for Food.

Donations of canned goods, peanut butter, soups, toiletries, cleaning products, and pet food are encouraged. Volunteers will collect contributions outdoors in freezing temperatures, continuing a tradition of community support for families in need throughout DeKalb County.
