Eight Hospitalized After Chemical Exposure at Byron Nuclear Plant

BYRON — Eight workers were taken to area hospitals Tuesday evening after a small amount of a non-radiological chemical escaped a holding tank at the Byron Nuclear Generating Station. The exposure happened around 5 p.m. during outage work in the turbine building. Multiple ambulances responded to the scene, and all workers were treated for minor injuries. Officials said the incident involved internal work activities and was not related to the plant’s operational systems.
