DEKALB — The DeKalb Police Department’s 2025 annual report was presented Monday night at the DeKalb City Council meeting. The report details staffing changes including the hiring of seven officers and additional personnel, along with expanded programs such as the Crisis Intervention Team and domestic battery lethality assessments.
“I said that we could not arrest ourselves out of crime and it’s still true. But what I did say is that as a unified front that we could reduce crime here and we have done that in that way. It starts with the police department. We know how pivotal that we are in this whole fight to reduce crime… we have to do our job. We have to be diligent and vigilant every night.” said DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd
Community outreach included more than 500 events, while embedded social workers provided nearly 1,700 services related to behavioral health and crisis response. Plans for 2026 include maintaining staffing levels, expanding crisis response efforts, and creating a traffic unit.
