DeKalb County History Center to Highlight Sycamore Pioneer Doctor

SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County History Center will host a free Brown Bag Lunch program at noon Thursday, March 5, featuring Dr. Letitia Westgate, the first woman doctor, surgeon, chemist, and hospital architect in the United States. Author Denise Moran will present vintage photographs and discuss Westgate’s career, including opening Sycamore Hospital in 1900, leading a smallpox immunization campaign, and securing funds for a local library. The program is open to the public at 1730 North Main Street in Sycamore. Copies of Moran’s book will be available for purchase.
