DEKALB – The City Council Monday night approved the 2026 street maintenance program, the final year of the current five-year plan launched in 2022. The $3 million program will resurface nearly six miles of streets, including Hillcrest Drive from Sycamore Road to Normal Road, multiple alleys in the Fisk-Pine area, Quail Run, Highpointe Drive, Scenic Road, and roads in several residential neighborhoods. The plan also includes work on County Farm Road and Market Square Mall, with costs partially reimbursed by the Market Square SSA. Bidding alternates will cover additional streets and alleys, including Lucinda Avenue and sections of North First Street.
DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes said this continued investment is something they should be proud of.
“I just can’t say how excited I am to see another major investment in our roads and the impact that’s gonna have on the quality of life of so many of our residents,” he said Monday. “I think it’s gonna be great.”
Construction is scheduled for May through August, with a new five-year plan expected to be presented to the Council in March 2026 following updated pavement condition data.
