BYRON — The Byron City Council met Wednesday evening at City Hall and recognized the upcoming retirement of longtime City Clerk and Treasurer Caryn Huber, presenting her with a certificate of appreciation for her years of service, which included roles as Executive Director of the Chamber and alderperson. The council welcomed Byron resident Roger Dickson, the new City Clerk, who brings with him experience in human resources. The council also was introduced to Liz Hiemstra, Executive Director of the Ogle County Economic Development Corporation, highlighting grant opportunities and community projects.
City Engineer Jason Stoll reported the completion of the 2025 street program and praised the quality of work, while Public Works Director Aaron Vincer highlighted preparations for the Ogle County Christmas tree drop-off at the boat ramp and discussed ongoing snowplow operations, noting the new truck Byron ordered will not arrive until March and the city is recruiting additional drivers. Public Works updates also included hazard tree removal, the start of sidewalk repairs and repairs to streetlights at Brighton Ridge and the boat launch.
