Byron Approves Fehr Graham Environmental Survey for Mill and Tower Roads

BYRON — The Byron City Council approved a proposal from Fehr Graham to conduct an environmental survey at the future roundabout site at East Mill and North Tower Roads. City Engineer Jason Stoll presented the proposal, noting that a topographic survey will be included in the $12,500 cost estimate. The council chose to bypass a first reading and approved the agreement at the meeting to get the work started before winter.

The survey is part of the city’s Health Safety Improvements Program grant, awarded last month through the Illinois Department of Transportation, to help fund the estimated $3 million roundabout project. The grant will cover 80% of costs, with the city responsible for the remaining 20%. According to grant rules, the project must be out for bid by January 2029. Stoll emphasized that the roundabout is intended to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians at the high-traffic intersection.
