Artist Nearing Completion of Mural at Rochelle Pocket Park

ROCHELLE — A new mural is taking shape at Rochelle’s recently completed Pocket Park at 517 W. Fourth Ave., a community space created after the demolition of a condemned building. Artist Mat Steder, owner of Steder Tattoo in Rochelle, said he has spent about eight days on the project so far. Steder hopes to complete the mural in about 60 total hours. The artwork features agriculture themed imagery, reflecting the area’s farming heritage. Steder said the piece will be symbolic for the community.

“It really represents the older generation, handing down its legacy to the newer generation, and to the newer generation, new growth,” said Steder.

An official unveiling and ribbon cutting is planned when the mural is complete.
