Matt Chapman hit a grand slam home run and a 3-run shot for San Francisco.
Willy Adames and Casey Schmitt also had 2 home runs each.
The Cubs have now lost 19 out of their last 25 games which includes 9 out of 10 at Wrigley Field.
Seiya Suzuki had a solo home run for Chicago as Edward Cabrera took the loss.
Game 2 in the series is Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
