MABAS Division 18 Conducts Tornado Response Training Drill

BYRON — Emergency responders from 11 fire departments across Ogle County participated in a large scale disaster drill last Monday led in coordination with the MABAS Division 18 Technical Rescue Team, simulating a tornado strike in a residential neighborhood. Officials said crews completed a full damage assessment exercise along with rescue and triage operations designed to test coordination during a mass casualty event, with support from the Northwest Illinois Preparedness and Response Coalition. The drill focused on improving readiness for severe weather events, which officials noted remain a major concern in Illinois. Organizers thanked community members who assisted during the drill and also recognized Mercy Health MD1 physicians, drone operator Jason King, and the Ogle County Emergency Management Agency for their support.
