GENOA– A 53-year-old Huntley man was injured Tuesday after authorities say he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into a home in rural Genoa. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 18200 block of Melms Road for a vehicle-versus-house crash. Authorities say Troy A. Oates of Huntley allegedly fell asleep while driving, crossed lanes, and struck the home head-on with a pickup. Oates suffered a head injury and was transported by the Hampshire Fire Protection District to Advocate Sherman Hospital for evaluation. No one inside the home was injured. Oates was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed, and no valid insurance.
