ROCKFORD — Republic Services announced that plastic bags of any kind, including clear bags, are no longer allowed inside recycling containers. Company officials said all recyclable materials must be placed loose in containers because plastic bags can become tangled in sorting equipment and cause shutdowns, safety concerns and processing delays at recycling centers. Republic Services said contamination charges will apply to customers who place bagged recyclables in containers under existing service agreements. Customers with questions about acceptable recycling materials are encouraged to contact their local Republic Services representative.
