DEKALB — Local artists are invited to submit artwork for the City of DeKalb’s utility box mural program as part of the community’s America 250 DeKalb commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The DeKalb Citizens’ Community Enhancement Commission is seeking paintings from area artists for the fifth round of the program, which converts digital images of artwork into vinyl wraps installed on utility boxes throughout the city, with submissions due May 13, 2026. Mayor Cohen Barnes said public art has played a key role in enhancing quality of life in DeKalb, while commission officials said this year’s theme encourages patriotic and community focused designs that reflect the spirit of the national anniversary celebration.
