DEKALB — DeCarbon DeKalb and NIU Sustainability will host the third annual DeKalb County Earth Fest on April 11 at NIU Founders Memorial Library, bringing together residents, experts, artists, and organizations to explore climate solutions in energy, food systems, land stewardship, and youth leadership. The free family-friendly festival will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with more than 50 vendors, outdoor activities, food trucks, and a youth activities room. Co-founder Kendra Holton Clemens said the event “is a chance for families and students and people who run businesses to come out and learn about how more sustainable practices in their businesses and homes can make them healthier, wealthier, and happier.” She added, “This year, we’re asking the question, what matters most in climate adaptation and what matters most to me? We want to drill down on what participants actually care about and teach them how to make change in that area.” The festival will highlight energy efficiency, landscaping with native plants, tree coverage, and interactive exhibits like NIU’s Hale Hunter weather research lab on wheels.
