Illinois Officials Warn Boaters Against Alcohol Use on the Water This Summer

SPRINGFIELD – As summer begins, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission is reminding boaters that operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and dangerous, increasing the risk of accidents and fatalities on the state’s waterways. A Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08 or higher while boating can lead to charges, injuries, or worse, and officials are urging Illinois residents to stay sober while operating watercraft. The commission encourages life jacket use, weather awareness, and completion of certified safety courses to prevent boating-related incidents.
