Raoul Signs Illinois on to $7.4 Billion Purdue Opioid Settlement

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a bipartisan group of 55 attorneys general in signing a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family to resolve claims tied to the opioid crisis. The deal, the largest of its kind with individuals linked to the epidemic, ends the Sacklers’ control of Purdue and bars them from selling opioids in the U.S. Illinois is expected to receive nearly $149 million over 15 years, with most funds distributed in the first three years. The state will use its share to support treatment, prevention, and recovery programs, including naloxone distribution and services for families affected by addiction.
