Gas Prices Begin Seasonal Rise as Summer Approaches

ROCHELLE – Gas prices are starting to climb ahead of the busy summer travel season, following a delay in the usual seasonal increase. The American Automobile Association reports that while gas prices typically rise earlier in the spring, lower crude oil costs this year have kept prices in check until now. As the seasonal trend sets in, drivers are paying roughly 40 cents less per gallon compared to last year, which comes as good news for the 39.4 million Americans expected to travel by car over Memorial Day weekend. In Illinois, the average price for regular gas is $3.41 per gallon, with prices in Ogle County at $3.25, Lee County at $3.18, and DeKalb County at $3.89.
