Illinois Tollway Expects Record 8 Million Memorial Day Travelers

DOWNERS GROVE — The Illinois Tollway is expecting a record 8 million vehicles to travel its system during the Memorial Day weekend from May 23 to May 27, a 4.4% increase over last year. The busiest day is projected to be Friday, May 23, with nearly 1.9 million vehicles expected, up from a daily average of 1.6 million. Drivers are encouraged to follow speed limits, especially in work zones, avoid distracted driving and call *999 for roadside help. Tollway maintenance crews and the GEICO-supported H.E.L.P. patrols will be available to assist stranded motorists. Construction on eastbound I-88 has reduced traffic to one lane, and work zone speed limits remain in effect at all times.
