DeKalb to Host Memorial Day Events with Keynote by Retired Army Colonel

DEKALB — DeKalb will hold three public events on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, to honor military service members who sacrificed their lives for the country. The first ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Clock in Memorial Park. Following the ceremony, a Memorial Day parade featuring local military organizations, first responders, and marching bands will begin at 9 a.m. at North Third and Locust Street. The Memorial Day program will take place at 9:30 a.m. on the Ellwood House lawn, with remarks from local officials, veterans, and a tribute to fallen service members. The keynote speaker will be retired Army National Guard Colonel Jose Jaques, a DeKalb Police Department veteran. Free tours of the Ellwood House will be available after the program. The events are organized by the City of DeKalb, the DeKalb Park District, and the Ellwood House Museum.
