Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Bocce Event in DeKalb

DEKALB –  Special Olympics Illinois Region A is seeking volunteers for its annual bocce competition on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the DeKalb Sports & Recreation Center. Volunteers are needed for three shifts—7 to 9:30 a.m. for setup, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 12:30 to 4 p.m.—to assist athletes on the courts, keep score, and help with awards.

Katie Risley, Director of Development for Region A, said that all the athletes are hoping to do their best.

“This is such a growing sport, that we just have a lot of athletes who are competing and they are hoping to get a gold medal at this competition so that they can go down to Bloomington-Normal in June to compete at the state level,” she said. New volunteers must create an account at portals.specialolympics.org, while returning volunteers can sign up directly at https://bit.ly/RegionABocce25. All volunteers will receive a confirmation email, a T-shirt, and lunch on event day.
