Permits Available to Help Illinois Farmers Combat Black Vultures

BLOOMINGTON — Livestock farmers in Illinois dealing with black vulture attacks can now apply for federal sub-permits through the Illinois Farm Bureau, which secured statewide destruction approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service effective through Dec. 31, 2025. Black vultures, protected under federal law, are known to prey on young animals and birthing livestock, causing injuries and financial loss. The permits allow approved farmers to kill up to three birds after consulting with USDA Wildlife Services and receiving a required state permit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
