Plainfield Post Office Renaming Bill Honors Fallen Soldier Advances In Senate

WASHINGTON DC — Legislation to rename the Plainfield Post Office in honor of Staff Sergeant Jose Dueñez Jr. has advanced in the U.S. Senate after receiving unanimous bipartisan approval from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The bill, led in the Senate by U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, would designate the facility at 14855 South Van Dyke Road in Plainfield as the Staff Sergeant Jose Dueñez Jr. Post Office Building. U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood secured support from the Illinois congressional delegation for the measure, which previously passed the House and now moves to the Senate floor for a vote. Dueñez and three other U.S. soldiers were killed during an Army training exercise in Lithuania on March 31, 2025. He enlisted after high school and served in the military for seven years. The legislation honors his service and his commitment to protecting his community and country.
