Rochelle Residents Invited to Energy Plan Open House

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Municipal Utilities and the University of Illinois System’s EnergySense Resilience Center will host an open house Tuesday to discuss the draft Rochelle Energy Action Plan and collect public feedback. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at Rochelle City Hall and will include refreshments and a drawing for a Nest smart thermostat. The plan outlines steps RMU can take to maintain affordable and reliable energy as Illinois transitions away from fossil fuel power sources under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act. “The Energy Action Plan describes strategies to help RMU achieve its vision to provide affordable, resilient energy to its customers,” said Shawn Maurer, technical director for EnergySense. The plan includes recommendations focused on energy efficiency, future power purchases, rate stability and community education. The project is funded through an Illinois EPA Energy Office community energy efficiency grant.
