Polo Awards Contract for Well No. 3 Abandonment Project

POLO — The City of Polo has awarded an $87,760 contract to Peerless Well & Pump, Inc. for the abandonment of Well No. 3 following a competitive bid process. Three companies submitted bids for the project, with Peerless submitting the lowest. Alderman Larry Weaver said  at the City Council meeting Monday night that the well was dug in the 1890’s, and has not been in use for over 20 years. The engineering firm Fehr Graham conducted the bid opening and recommended the contract be awarded to the Wisconsin-based company. They hoped that they could eventually apply the expense of the abandonment onto a future water main project with possible reimbursement through the Illinois EPA.
