13-Year-Old Charged After Stolen Sycamore Minivan Found in Rockford

ROCKFORD — A 13-year-old boy was charged after a minivan reported stolen from Sycamore was recovered in Rockford Tuesday evening. Rockford Police SCOPE officers located the vehicle near 20th Street and 23rd Avenue around 6:50 p.m., and it allegedly attempted to flee at a high rate of speed before being tracked to the 3100 block of 12th Avenue using the StarChase system. The juvenile exited the van and was taken into custody following a brief foot chase. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges including aggravated fleeing to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle, no driver’s license, and resisting arrest. He was taken to juvenile detention, and Rockford Police say additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
